Week Four: Jamaican Mon!

When?
Friday, Jan 28, 2005, 7:30pm
Where?
Montego Bay 1239 SW Jefferson St., 228-1277.
The Scoop
Food: Jamaican patties–flaky turnovers filled with spicy meat or spinach; Ocho Rios crab cakes, served with mango-ginger chutney; Boston Beach jerk chicken; saltfish and ackee; for dessert, coconut drops.

Executive chef Opel Bailey, a Jamaican who was a cruise-ship chef, moved to Portland four months ago. All this might seem like a theme park, if the food weren’t delicious, generous, and as authentic as your best Bob Marley bootleg.

Cost?
Prices inexpensive to moderate. Credit cards accepted.

4 Thoughts.

  1. (homer simpson’s voice) mmmmmm… tender, sweet, young goat… it was delicious! a most enjoyable time… we must remember to invoke the 2nd rule of Culture Club – mingle!

  2. Good but SPICY food…my taste buds finally regained feeling. I am really excited that Culture Club is GROWING!!

  3. I had some really great fish, but the thing I liked most was the bread ! Yummy. P.S. I think I should be the culture club secretary because I got this “do it yourself restaurant guide” book that you fill out … I’ll bring it to the next meeting (Mel remind me), we can all fill it out :) I can’t wait for Friday !!
